Obscure Gods

I won’t write about obscure gods.
I won’t give them boundaries
and show them where their power fades.

I won’t recite adorations
with awkward pauses
from rough timed line breaks
that forces others to think of them for once.

I won’t share myself with them
but will leave them starving in darkness
so that they fade and become the backdrop
for those popular gods grown fat from abundance.

I won’t write about obscure gods.
Or how they helped me
when the common names
proved impotent against uncommon woes.

I’ll keep the obscure gods to myself
and love them in obscure ways
and give them obscure names
that when whispered makes the common shiver and ask
“What was that?”
