Spelloween 2025: Day 1

Don’t mind me. Trying to get back into the groove of habits left behind. Today is October 1, 2025, and it’s time to get silly. Each day of the month of October, I’m going to put together a little spell that involves one of my favorite tools: Tarot cards.

None of this has been tested. None of this is meant to be taken serious. All of this is in fun and with “good” intentions. All of this is meant to bring me joy. If you get some of that joy-juice as well, then all the better.

Day 1: 4 of Coins

Gather the following:

• The 4 of Coins from your tarot deck. Your deck may use Pentacles, Discs, Plates, or something else entirely. If your tarot deck has an elemental system, use the suit associated with Earth/Dirt.
• A small stone that fits comfortably in your palm, but not so big that it would be difficult to manipulate with just your fingers. If you have a worry stone, that’s a good fit in both size and purpose.
• A light source. A plain candle will do, it does not have to be “virgin” nor dedicated to this one working. If open flame is not permitted, then an LED candle will do. If you don’t have either, then a flashlight will do. If you don’t have a flashlight, then the light from your cell phone will do. The idea being, that you have a dedicated light source for this working other than whatever room light is necessary for you to see what you’re doing.

The spell:

1. Wash your hands and dry them well. Prepare your working surface by making sure it is clean and dry. If you are using open flame, make sure the location is not in a draft and is safe from “surprise assistance” from any pets, children, and/or other physical manifestations of chaos (a.k.a.: roommates). Use whatever method is your favorite to dedicate the space to a temporary working.
2. Place the 4 of Coins “upright” and face up from your point of view. Place the candle on the table on the far side of the card, or at the “head” of the card. Place the stone to either side of the card.
3. Call upon whatever spirits, gods, powers, others that you work with and light the candle (turn on the LED, turn on the flashlight, turn the phone’s light onto the card). Declare to them that the tarot card on the table is a representation of the “strength, stability, and security” that you want to acquire for yourself.
4. Pick up the stone and make a fist around it. Once it has warmed up, hold the stone close to your mouth and speak to it. Tell it that while once it was a stone held up by the earth, it will be reminded that it was once part of a mountain, and that once reminded, it will again take its place as “a source of strength, stability, and security”.
5. Place the stone on the center of the card. Place your hands palm down on either side of the card as if you were going to press down on the working surface.
6. Speak again to the stone and tell it to draw up “strength, stability, and security” through the surface underneath it. How you speak to it is up to you. Voice is optional. Speech is optional. Sing, chant, recite statements and phrases that you feel is empowering. Do this until you feel the stone is ready.
7. Pick up the stone and present it to the light source you have for the working. “Behold! As the stone drew strength, stability, and security into itself, so will I call upon that same strength, stability, and security for myself.”
8. Say whatever words you need to say and/or take actions that you need to do that declares the working is concluded.
9. Extinguish the candle/light source.
10. Grats! You now have an Stone of Empowerment that you can use when you need a little extra strength, stability, and security with you. You can keep the stone in your pocket, or place it on your altar, or use it as a component in a larger working or ritual bag. Give the stone to someone who you feel could use a little help holding things together.
11. Return the tarot card to the deck it came from and disassemble your working space. Note you can repeat this ritual as needed with the same stone as a boost or with other stones if you like.
12. Optional: Get ice cream to celebrate your success.

Modification: Empower a piece of hard candy instead of a stone. Eat the candy for an immediate effect.
