Spelloween 2025: Day 10

Don’t mind me. Trying to get back into the groove of habits left behind. Today is October 10, 2025, and it’s time to have some fun. Each day of the month of October, I’m going to put together a little spell that involves one of my favorite tools: Tarot cards.

None of this is meant to be taken seriously, unless you want it to be so. All of this is in fun and with good intentions. All of this is meant to bring me joy. If you get some of that joy-juice as well, then all the better.

These spells are meant to be modified, adapted, and used “as is” or as inspiration for your personal rituals.

Day 10: Page of Swords – As I Said Before

Gather the following:

  • The Page of Swords card from your preferred tarot deck. If elemental alignments are a priority, use the suit that corresponds with fire. If using an oracle deck, use the card that corresponds to “messages” or “communication”.
  • A slip of flash paper, petition paper, or 3″ by 3″ piece of thin paper. (Sizes are approximate and dependent upon your need. If color is important, use the color appropriate for your message and/or urgency.)
  • A writing utensil.
  • A fire-safe receptacle such as a ceramic saucer, ceramic bowl/mug, ramekin, iron cauldron, or such similar.
  • A place where you can burn said paper safely.
  • A place where you can dispose of ashes safely. (For this spell, outside is preferred, however the toilet or trash is acceptable.)
  • Lighter or matches. (Sorry, fire is required for this spell.)
  • The means to deal with any sudden uncontrolled fire such as water, sand, lid for the receptacle, fire extinguisher, any combination of these or similar devices, or all of the above.

Ever try to communicate something to another person and that other person just doesn’t get it? No matter how clearly you word the email or how carefully you enunciate each word, the other person just seems to have more mud than matter in their head. This spell is to help you get your point across and have the other person be more attentive to you.

The spell:

  1. On the paper, write a “quick note” to the target of your message. Address them by their name or title, and then write a summary of your message. That summary could be a few sentences, a collection of key words, or a list of important items. Sign the message with the name they know you by.
  2. If you have not filled the paper with your words, you may trim the excess off. Discard any trimmed paper. You may fold or roll the paper according to your usual custom. You may also dress the paper with powders, herbs, and/or oils according to your custom, but please be aware that these additional items may increase the risk of uncontrolled fire.
  3. Place your prepared paper in the receptacle but do not light it on fire yet. Instead, pick up the Page of Swords tarot card (or the card you have pulled for this working) and address it with the following:
“As your duty to your lord, this task I consign,
that you take this message and the meaning within,
straight from my hand to the one I assign,
and explain to them the meaning therein.”
  4. Place the card down a safe distance from the receptacle but not so far away that you have to get up to do it.
  5. Now, light your prepared paper on fire. You may use tweezers, prongs, or other tools to make sure that it burns up as much as possible. If it doesn’t burn up all at once, you may relight it as often as necessary to complete the job.
  6. Once the paper is burned to ashes, AND the ashes have cooled, take the receptacle and the tarot card to where you have decided to dispose of the ashes. Outside is preferred, such as out the window, on the patio deck, over the balcony. Inside methods may be to the toilet or over the trash can.
  7. Use the tarot card to fan or blow the ashes into the wind if outside, or into the toilet or trash can if inside. Once you have blown as much of the ash as you can without scraping the receptacle, you may put the card to the side and clean out the receptacle using your preferred method.
  8. Return the tarot card to its proper deck and put away the tools, but don’t call the spell concluded just yet.
  9. At your earliest convenience, make the physical communication that this spell is meant to ease. Make the phone call. Send the email. Have the conversation. Make the communication with confidence that your target is ready to hear what you have to say.
  10. Now, the spell is concluded.
  11. Optional: Get ice cream. That last step was a lot.

This spell is meant to make your target amenable to hearing you out. This spell is not meant to change their mind or make them more agreeable with you. They still have their own mind to think with and will make a decision on their terms.
