Don’t mind me. Trying to get back into the groove of habits left behind. Today is October 11, 2025, and it’s time to have some fun. Each day of the month of October, I’m going to put together a little spell that involves one of my favorite tools: Tarot cards.
None of this is meant to be taken seriously, unless you want it to be so. All of this is in fun and with good intentions. All of this is meant to bring me joy. If you get some of that joy-juice as well, then all the better.
These spells are meant to be modified, adapted, and used “as is” or as inspiration for your personal rituals.
Day 11: The High Priestess – Let Me See
Gather the following:
- The High Priestess card (or equivalent) from your tarot deck. If using an elemental or oracle system, pull the card that most corresponds to “darkness”, “revelation”, and/or “inquiry”.
- A small mirror, either on a stand or able to be propped up so you can see your reflection in it clearly.
- A cloth, veil, or lace fabric that can cover the chosen mirror entirely. That the cloth covers the mirror is more important than how see-through the fabric is.
- A candle or other light source that is independent of the light you need to see by. If using a flame candle, use a candle holder or other flame controlling method and be aware of fire-risks.
- At least an hour of time where you can take a nap or be otherwise undisturbed.
- A sheet of paper or notepad.
- A writing utensil.
The spell:
This spell is for those moments when you know something needs to be addressed, but you don’t know what that something is, only that something is off. Just as you don’t think about air quality until something has already disturbed the area (unless you are an air quality specialist, in which case, thank you), it can be hard to pinpoint what is bothering you until it has become too large to overlook.
The point of this spell is to ask the High Priestess for assistance in revealing that hidden concern. However, there is a lot of heavy lifting you have to do before you begin the ritual steps. You have to be willing to be wrong. You have to be willing to hear that something you are doing is the cause of the problem. You have to be willing to hear that to fix the problem, you will need to change some habits that have been your comfort for a very long time. You have to be willing to change. If you are not willing to consider these things, then this spell would do you no good.
The ideal working area for this spell is a personal table or a counter/shelf that can be left unguarded. The ideal time for this working is late at night, with the working area left overnight until the following morning. If you do not have these conditions, then you may put away the materials during the waiting period and/or modify the time periods in later steps to meet your circumstances.
- On a night that you consider most amenable to dream working and/or visions, place the High Priestess tarot card, the mirror, the cloth, and the candle on the table. Place the mirror such that you can see yourself in the reflection clearly.
- If you have enough ambient light to do so, turn off any artificial lights in the room you are performing this working in. If you require artificial light to see clearly, leave them on.
- (Return to the table, if necessary.) Examine yourself in the mirror for a few minutes in silence (or longer if you are comfortable doing so). The point being to become accustomed with see yourself from a different point of view.
- Cover the mirror with the cloth.
- Light the candle, or activate the light source for this ritual. (If using a candle, do not place the candle close to the covered mirror, or in a draft that would send the flame towards the cloth. Be fire-safe.)
- Pick up the High Priestess card and petition with the following (out loud or silently):
“That which I know, I know so well.
That which you know, you’ll never tell.
I ask that you reveal to me,
that which I cannot see.
The path you hold by secret light,
open to me this lightless night.
Dream or thought or vision fair,
show truth to be seen bare.” - Place the High Priestess card on the cloth covering the mirror, propped against the mirror in some way, or on the table in front of the mirror. The card should be placed upright and facing you.
- Blow out the candle. (Extinguish the light source dedicated for the ritual.)
- If late at night, go to bed. If during the day, go take a nap. If you are unable to sleep, but are able to spend at least an hour undisturbed, place yourself at rest as best as you can. Regardless if awake or asleep, try to “listen” for ideas, thoughts, and concerns that you normally wouldn’t pay attention to. You do not need to be a lucid dreamer to complete this spell.
- As these unusual ideas, thoughts, and/or concerns come to you, write them down once you are able to.
- Come the morning, or once the time you have set aside has concluded, return to the table. (Reconstruct the table if necessary.)
- Remove the cloth from the mirror. (Move the High Priestess card to the side if necessary.)
- Read your list of concerns to yourself in the mirror. If you have no list of concerns, ask your reflection if all is well and if you should try the ritual again. There is no “correct” answer here, go with your intuition.
- Turn the mirror so that you no longer see your reflection. If you cannot turn the mirror, then turn in your seat so you are no longer looking at your reflection.
- Pick up the High Priestess card, thank the figure for their assistance, and declare it is time to return.
- Return the High Priestess card to its proper deck and disassemble the table. Please wait for the candle to cool down before moving.
This is a ritual that can be completed many times during a single day, though I do not advise it as it can be an easy way for a small matter to be blown up in perceived importance.
The degree to which you remember your dreams, can visualize matters in your mind, or other “acts of imagination” vary from person to person. There is no minimum skill required to complete this ritual.
Not every concern will be earth-shattering. Not every unusual thought will lead to a break-through. But by being willing to consider things you thought “safe” or “unnecessary” before, you prepare yourself for when you have to think sideways to get through the unusual circumstances that are usually common.
