Don’t mind me. Trying to get back into the groove of habits left behind. Today is October 15, 2025, and it’s time to have some fun. Each day of the month of October, I’m going to put together a little spell that involves one of my favorite tools: Tarot cards.
None of this is meant to be taken seriously, unless you want it to be so. All of this is in fun and with good intentions. All of this is meant to bring me joy. If you get some of that joy-juice as well, then all the better.
These spells are meant to be modified, adapted, used “as is”, or as inspiration for your personal rituals. Feel free to change them to suit your personal circumstances.
Day 15: Queen of Wands – Acting Graciously
Gather the following:
- The Queen of Wands tarot card from your tarot deck. If elements are your priority, then pull from the suit that corresponds to Air. If the Queen is of higher rank/authority in your deck than the King, then choose the crown that better represents “representation”, “ambassador(ship)”, and/or “preparation” to you.
- Optional, but strongly suggested: Make a copy of the front of the chosen card. You may scale the size of the copy smaller, but do not make it so small that it can easily become lost.
- Optional to the optional: If unable to create a photographic equivalent copy, create a paper token that will represent the original card.
Ah, social activity. There isn’t must else better at causing anxiety than having to act calm and collected in front of other people. This spell is to give you a little boost in such scenarios, be it if you have a presentation before hundreds or a solo meeting with friends and/or peers.
There are two parts to this spell. The first is completed as a preparatory step at least an hour prior to (getting ready for) the event, and preferably completed the night before. The second is completed during the event itself. As your mode of dress and/or choice of accoutrements may limit how and where you could carry the card with you, making a copy or a token to bear instead may be more necessary than optional.
- Prior to the event, be it at least an hour before you must begin to prepare, or the night before the event, take the Queen of Wands tarot card to a quiet area where you will not be disturbed for a while. This may be your working area, your bedroom, a reading room, in your car while parked in the far corner of the parking lot, a locked powder room where you can be assured of privacy, et cetera. (If you prepared a token, bring the token with you as well.)
- Calm yourself (for as best as you can under the circumstances). Focusing on the card (and holding the token in your non-dominant hand or having it placed as close to you as you can), think about the role you will be asked to play at the event. See the Queen of Wands card not as a tarot card for divination or games, but a representation of that role.
- Take three deep and steady breaths, and recite/read the following (out loud or silently):
“This crown I wear, this role I play,
‘Twas made for me to walk.
I’ll not be shy, nor weakly act.
This task I will not balk.
With royal air, this I will dare,
to lead and show and talk.
Until the time, deigns to decline,
and sweeps us with its clock.” - Optional: Add or replace the rhyme with your crafted words. Rhyming is not required, nor any sense of meter. The point being that you are telling the Queen of Wands, and thus, telling yourself, that despite how you personally feel about the event, that you are going to perform as needed for the event’s duration.
- As you prepare for the event, be it the following day or later in the same day, place the Queen of Wands tarot card somewhere on your person or in the accoutrements you will be carrying with you. If there is no place to safely stow the card, or if bringing the card with you is risky, then stow the token you made in preparation for this. As you stow the card/token, say to yourself in as quiet a voice as you can (or silently):
“I take my crown, I take my throne, and now I take my place.” - Proceed to the event.
- After the event, once you are again in a private place where you will not be disturbed, retrieve the card/token from the stowing place. If you used a token, also retrieve the tarot card from where it was in safekeeping. Take a deep breath, focus on the tarot card (not the token), and say (out loud or silently):
“The audience departs. And so, do I.” - Return the tarot card to its deck. You may dispose of the token in an environmentally aware manner, or you may keep it as a souvenir or for later use. You do you.
The Queen of Wands is known for being the card of hospitality and graciousness. But in this case, she is called upon for her role as the Gracious Host. Sometimes we have to endure an event that we really don’t want to, but refusing is not always an option. The diplomacy and graciousness required to be the Gracious Host is also embodied in the Queen of Wands. However, she is also the card of Taking Care of Shit, so if that is what you need to be for the event, then take care of it.
