Spelloween 2025: Day 16

Don’t mind me. Trying to get back into the groove of habits left behind. Today is October 16, 2025, and it’s time to have some fun. Each day of the month of October, I’m going to put together a little spell that involves one of my favorite tools: Tarot cards.

None of this is meant to be taken seriously, unless you want to do just that. All of this is in fun and with good intentions. All of this is meant to bring me joy. If you get some of that joy-juice as well, then all the better.

These spells are meant to be modified, adapted, used “as is”, or as inspiration for your personal rituals. Feel free to change them to suit your personal circumstances.

Day 16: Queen of Coins – The Perceptive Crown

Gather the following:

  • The Queen of Coins (Pentacles) card from your tarot deck. If your deck prioritizes elements, then pull from the suit that corresponds to Earth. If your court card hierarchy has another figure as the “second in power”, then pull that card instead.
  • The largest value coin and the smallest value coin in circulation that you have available. For most folks in the United States, this will likely be a quarter and a penny. (Haven’t seen a fifty-cent or dollar coin in years, but if you have one, do not be quick to use it as you will not keep the coin after the ritual.) Do not use a novelty or commemorative coin. This spell requires money such as can be used in exchange for goods and services. As such, use the cleanest coins that you can find, or give them a good scrub and polish prior to beginning this working.
  • A small mirror that can be propped up and moved.
  • The best facial tissue that you can get your hands on. How many sheets to have at hand will depend on the quality of the tissue and how far do you want to go when it’s called for.
  • Optional: If you have really good clean finished cloth such as a silk handkerchief/scarf or a satin/high-quality pillowcase, then have that at the ready. You will very likely need to fold it several times to meet the spell’s need, this is desirable.
  • At least two sheets of paper towels or napkins. The plainer, the better.
  • Optional: I leave it up to the ritualist which category the toilet paper they have at hand would be assigned to. Toilet paper quality varies even more than opinions on the internet.
  • Optional: A small pillow or cloth bag. If the tarot deck you sourced the card from is kept in a dedicated container such as a bag or casket, then place the unused cards in that container and have it at the ready.
  • Index cards, small note paper, or the like. You may cut full sheets of paper in halves or quarters if that suits you as you will likely not need much room. Make sure the chosen paper fits completely under the paper towel/napkin. You may fold the paper later to make it fit.
  • A writing utensil.

The spell:

I will use she/her to refer to the figure of the Queen of Coins, but the Queen of Coins could represent any person of any gender for any moment, according to that person’s wants, needs, and/or whims.

The Queen is the second of authority in the court cards as I use them. She reports to the King, but her court and attendants are her own. The Queen of Coins, specifically, is a shrewd person, who gladly permits the King of Coins to get all the attention and all the social entanglements that comes from such attention. Many depictions of her card show her apparently completely engrossed by and focused upon the token of her suit. This gives an initial impression that she is obsessed with wealth and the trappings of wealth with no mind to the methods by which that wealth was accumulated nor by the consequences that comes from indiscriminate use or hoarding of that wealth.

She sure fooled you, didn’t she.

Those petitioning the King consider her holding the token of her house and dismiss her as another of the King’s pretty jewels, completely missing that she is in fact considering them and quietly observing what they are doing when the King is not present. The Queen of Coins is silently observant, calculating, and patient. She is a sterner judge than the King, and moves more subtly. As such, it would be good to have her assistance if you are trying to make moves of your own to increase your wealth and/or to expand your network.

  1. In advance of this working, give some thought to how you will position your chair at your working area, the boundaries of the working area, and if exceeding those boundaries might be beneficial for this spell. Read through the steps before working them.
  2. On your note paper, write down something that you would like to have access to, be it funds, a job, knowledge of a particular topic, a person of note, or something else that if you were to gain, would be a positive benefit in your life. The one caveat is that the desired asset must be realistic and attainable. The Queen of Coins is not a wish-bringer, and does not suffer fools.
  3. Prepare your working area according to your usual custom. When ready, make a soft pallet of facial tissues in the middle of your working area. Optional: Make a soft pallet using the high-quality cloth(s). If you have the tarot bag/container at hand, place that in the middle of your working area and cover that with layers of facial tissues, or with the high-quality cloth(s). The point being, you are making a luxurious place for a Person of Dignity to abide in.
  4. Place the Queen of Coins on that pallet, upright and facing you. Optional: If you are able to prop up the card on the pallet, leave enough room to place something in front of the card on the pallet later.
  5. Place the mirror towards the back of your working area behind the Queen of Coins, but in a way that your line of sight will see her and the mirror simultaneously.
  6. Preferably away from your working area (but not a hard requirement), place your paper towel/napkin. It could be on the same table as your working area, but outside of the bounds you have created. It could be on another table, counter, or surface entirely. Wherever it is placed, it SHOULD be out of your direct sight, and MUST be in the mirror’s reflection. (Turn the mirror if needed.) Once you have located the proper location for it, place your inscribed paper upon it (face up), then cover it with the second (layer of) paper towel/napkin.
  7. Place your two coins on your working area, close to you.
  8. Take a deep breath, remember that you are about to address royalty, and (out loud or silently) greet the Queen of Coins according to the title of her card in the most straightforward yet dignified manner as you can summon. I have no incantation nor explicit words for you to begin your speech with. The Queen of Coins is not about flattery or social persuasion, and is not impressed by tricks of meter and rhyme.
  9. As is due her station, you have brought her a gift! Announce the largest value coin you have with you. Do not be dismayed if it is a fraction of your currency’s denomination and all but worthless by itself in your local store. In this age of instant monetary transactions, coins are rapidly becoming a luxury to have and to use. Present this coin to her card, and then place it on her card on the pallet. (If you have propped up her card, place it before her but it must be on the same elevation as her card.)
  10. Continue to address the Queen of Coins (out loud or silently).
“O, [Queen of Coins], my gift to you is yours. I demand nothing in return. If this gift is pleasing, I ask for your assistance. See, here is my investment.”
  11. Pick up the smallest value coin and hold it to the card.
“It is small and insignificant to you. But with your assistance, I can make something of it. I ask, O [Queen], that you grant me a boon, and help me increase my investments and my assets for our mutual benefit.”
  12. That you are not specifically speaking of what is written (and hidden) on the inscribed paper is deliberate. The Queen of Coins already knows what is there because you know what is there. The silence is protective.
  13. Place the smaller value coin on the working area between you and the Queen’s pallet. Sit in honorable and respectful silence for a few minutes or until you feel either enough time has passed, or you receive feedback in some way that your petition has been granted or rejected.
  14. If you feel enough time has passed or you feel some sort of feedback that indicates it is time to close the audience, slide or pull back the smaller value coin towards you as you thank the Queen for her attention. Close the working in your usual way.
  15. If you feel the petition has been rejected, take up your inscribed paper and write on it the feelings, hints, and instructions that came to mind. Perhaps your reach was overbroad to begin with, or there is an intermediary step that must be completed before you can begin the greater work. Put the inscribed paper to the side to review another day. Return the smaller value coin to your personal treasury to spend (or not) at your will.
  16. If you feel the petition was granted, take the smaller value coin and the inscribed paper and place them in a envelope. Seal the envelope in your usual manner and use it as a reminder of the work you now have to begin.
  17. Disassemble the pallet, but do not return the larger value coin to your personal treasury. It’s not yours anymore, and must be handled a different way. But first, return the Queen of Coins card to its proper deck, return the mirror (and other items) to its proper storage, and recycle/reuse/dispose of the tissues, paper towels, and/or napkins according to your custom.
  18. The value of the larger value coin is no longer yours to profit from. Either give the coin itself to charity in some way or leave it at an auspicious place. DO NOT KEEP OR SPEND IT.

Optional: Use your favorite divination method after the ritual to determine if the petition was accepted, denied, or is waiting for you to do something else before a decision can be reached. If you do this, get a journal because you’re about to go on a journey.
