Don’t mind me. Trying to get back into the groove of habits left behind. Today is October 18, 2025, and it’s time to have some fun. Each day of the month of October, I’m going to put together a little spell that involves one of my favorite tools: Tarot cards.
None of this is meant to be taken seriously, unless you want to do just that. All of this is in fun and with good intentions. All of this is meant to bring me joy. If you get some of that joy-juice as well, then all the better.
These spells are meant to be modified, adapted, used “as is”, or as inspiration for your personal rituals. Feel free to change them to suit your personal circumstances.
Day 18: 2 of Coins – Give Me What I Want
Gather the following:
- The 2 of Coins (Pentacles) card from your tarot deck. If elements are a priority to you, then pull from the suit which corresponds to Earth.
- Two coins from your local currency. You will be making marks on them and eventually spending (or donating) both of them, so do not use coins that have special meaning to you.
- A fine-tip marker, nail polish, or other means of leaving marks on the chosen coins. (This spell does not require any level of artistic skill. How much you want to bring to the table is up to you.) As your coins are mostly likely made of metal, the mark you will leave will not be permanent, and that’s okay. It just needs to stay on long enough for you to complete the spell. If color is of importance to you, then choose a color that you associate with “increase”, and/or “desire”.
- Optional: A tissue, napkin, or paper towel to cover your chosen tarot card with to protect it from slow-drying marks on the coin or errant marks.
- If English is not your primary/personal/magical language, take some time to translate the words and ideas of “desire” and “awareness” into your language of choice. If possible, translate them into one word each.
What you do you want for yourself? Your initial answer will likely be what you tell a stranger on the street when pressed for small talk. Something “safe” to admit wanting. This spell isn’t for small talk, ice breakers, or idle chat while in queue. This spell is for what you know you want but can’t be straightforward about admitting it, much less actually getting it.
It is that knowledge of the self that is the core of this spell. To want is good. To be aware of wanting something is good. To be aware of precisely what you want and why, is best. But wanting is not the same as having, and your circumstances may make having what you want very difficult. This spell is to smooth the way for that acquisition to happen.
The spell:
- Wash and dry the chosen coins in a way that will make it easier for your marking tool of choice to be successful.
- Prepare your working area, and there place the 2 of Coins tarot card, the two currency coins, your marking utensil, and your optional tissues/napkins/paper towels. Make sure to leave enough room for you to work on the coins while having the tarot card towards the back out of the way. Feel free to use the tissues to cover the tarot card if you tend to be a little… messy… with your marking tool.
- Place the tarot card in the middle of the working area. (Leave your marking tool off to the side, closed and capped.)
- Pick up one coin with your NON-dominant hand. So if you are right-handed, you are picking up the coin with your left hand. If you are ambidextrous, then pick up the coin with the hand that you would steady things with. If you are stirring a pot on the stove and you are holding the pot with your right hand, then use that right hand to pick up the coin.
- Declare (out loud or silently) that this coin is the manifestation of your awareness. That you are aware of what you want, aware that you do not have (enough of) what you want, and aware that obtaining what you want will not be in a straightforward or easy manner. After declaring this, place the coin beside the tarot card, on the same side that your hand is. So if you picked up the coin with your right hand, place it to the right of the card.
- Now, pick up the other coin with your DOMINANT hand. If you are ambidextrous, use the hand other than the one in the last step. If you only have one hand available for this spell, use that hand for both steps, but keep track of which coin is on which side of the card. If you have an assistant picking up the coins for you, designate one side of the card as Awareness and the other side as Desire according to your personal preference.
- For this second coin, declare (silently or out loud) that it is the manifestation of your desire. That you are willing to exchange that coin for the fulfillment of your desire, that you are willing to make other reasonable exchanges for the fulfillment of your desire, and that this is the first action towards that exchange. After declaring this, place the coin beside the tarot card on the same side as the hand that picked it up (or on the side you have designated for it).
- Carefully push/slide the tarot card and the two coins beside it towards the back of your working area. You may pick up the items if you must, but don’t switch the coins around when you place them back down.
- (Optional: Line the working area with paper towels and/or napkins in preparation for marking the coins.) Take up your marking tool. If necessary, keep it capped/closed and shake if usage instructions require.
- Optional: Cover the tarot card with a tissue/napkin/paper towel as a precaution against unwanted marks.
- Mark the coins with symbols relevant to their designation and personal to you. How you mark the coins is a personal preference. If you have the skill to be fanciful with your markings, then do so. If you are lucky to make a dot on one coin and two dots on the other, then do that instead. Suggestion: Mark the Coin of Awareness with an “A” and the Coin of Desire with a “D”. If you have declared the coins in a language other than English, it is suggested to mark the coins with the first letter of the titles used. If both titles start with the same letter, symbol, or ideogram, add something different to each coin to differentiate them such as using different colors or outlining the edge of one but not the other. What they are marked is not anywhere near as important as you understanding what and why you marked them.
- As you mark each coin, return them to their relevant place beside the tarot card. You may keep the tarot card covered to prevent accidental transfer to the card.
- Cap/cover your marking tool and place to the side.
- Hold your hands over the marked coins and tarot card. You may pull the coins and card closer to you if you are comfortable doing so. You may also leave the coins and card in place and focus your attention there.
- Recite as is, or reword the following to your preferred phrasing and/or language (out loud or silently):
“I know what I want full well.
And for this, I craft this spell.
These two coins, begone from me.
In my heart, I have made space.
My desire, now to me chase.
My fulfillment, come to me.” - Leave the coins in place to fully dry/cure before handling.
- Once the coins are safe to manhandle, you may disassemble your working area and return all tools (including the tarot card) to their respective areas except the coins.
- At your first available convenience, spend the marked coins. Do not keep them. Do not mix them with your loose change hoard. Do not give them to family members, friends, coworkers unless you are spending them in exchange for goods and services. If you do not have an easy way to spend them, then donate them to a charity (religious or otherwise) where the money will be spent by the recipients. (Yes, this means you can drop them in a busker’s can as that is charity and/or financial reward for entertainment.)
- Now your spell is complete and the matter ended. If you have not already begun separate work to obtain your desire, begin now as discreetly as your circumstances require.
While I first envisioned this spell for a tangible desire, I realized as I worked through it, that it could be for any desire that one would conceivable spend money to obtain. I am aware that the use of the 2 of Coins in this manner goes against what is the common divination meaning of the card. As I have worked my way through these series, I am realizing that the set of meanings I use for myself, has differed significantly from what is commonly accepted. If the 2 of Coins does not suit you for this spell, please feel free to use a different tarot card as the base and let me know which card you used and why.
