Spelloween 2025: Day 30

Don’t mind me. Trying to get back into the groove of habits left behind. Today is October 30, 2025, and it’s time to have some fun. Each day of the month of October, I’m going to put together a little spell that involves one of my favorite tools: Tarot cards.

None of this is meant to be taken seriously, unless you want to do just that. All of this is in fun and with good intentions. All of this is meant to bring me joy. If you get some of that joy-juice as well, then all the better.

These spells are meant to be modified, adapted, used “as is”, or as inspiration for your personal rituals. Feel free to change them to suit your personal circumstances.

Day 30: The Magician – I, Myself

Gather the following:

  • The Magician card from your most personal and most favorite tarot deck. If you are using an alternative deck, use the card that comes closest to your personal perception of what a magic user is and does. If more than one card fits your perception, then choose the card that is the Most Fitting or Best Fit.
  • A location that you can make as dark as you are comfortable with. Ideally, that location will be away from other people and in a space where you will be uninterrupted/undisturbed for at least 20 minutes, or for the length of time that you can be comfortable there. If you can only manage a few minutes, that’s okay. If you can sit for several hours, nice to meet you, sorry about the cold hands.

For the previous twenty-nine days, the tarot card spells have all had the same circumstantial component. This component was so ubiquitous that it did not need to be added to the list of materials. This tarot card spell will focus on that singular component without the assistance of any other material object. This spell will focus on you.

The spell:

  1. Preparation: Prepare your working area according to your custom, if dedicated working areas are your custom. At that working area, place The Magician tarot card and dedicate it to this spell. Once prepared, you may take the tarot card to the space you have set aside for this work. At the end of the spell, you will be returning it to your tarot deck, but while this spell is active, it will be held separate.
  2. When the appointed time arrives, retreat to your personal space with the Magician tarot card and make the space as dark as you are comfortable. If that means all the lights stay on, then the lights stay on. If that means a complete black-out, do have an emergency light source close at hand, just in case.
  3. From this point on, you will work in silence to the best of your ability.
  4. Take the tarot card in your hands (or in one hand if that is more comfortable). Look into the card as if you are looking into a mirror. Study it to the best of your ability in the light that you have permitted yourself. It doesn’t matter if the card image is of a full figure or if it is abstract swirls of colors and lines. If you are in a complete black-out or are unable to see the surface of the card, hold it up to your face just the same. The image is to assist, but it is not where the magic lies.
  5. Once you feel ready, or if you are otherwise unable to see the card image, close your eyes. Keeping The Magician tarot card before you, project your ideal of a competent magic user onto and into the card. As you do so, the card may begin to feel heavy, shifting, and strange. Regardless if it does or doesn’t, hold this projection for a moment.
  6. Once you feel ready, pull that projection of the competent magic user out of the card and into yourself. You are invoking that competent magic user into yourself, so that you are becoming that competent magic user. Use whatever visualizations feel right to you to do this. If you want to use hand gestures, you may do so. If you want to move the card around you, you may do so. You may use whatever physical actions that feels right to you, but you must do so in complete silence. (To the best of your ability.)
  7. Once your appointed time has passed, or once you feel that the power you had called into the card was now in you (whichever happens first), place the card face down on whatever surface you are near. If you are sitting on the bed, place it face down on the bed. If you are sitting near a table, place it face down on the table. If you are sitting on the floor, place it face down on your lap (unless you know the floor is clean).
  8. Take a breath, then turn on the light.
  9. From this point on, you are released from the compulsion for silence.
  10. Return the card to its tarot deck unless you dedicated the card in a separate area. If you used a working area to dedicate the card for this spell, once you are able, return to that working area and release the card from its dedication.
  11. What you choose to do with yourself is for you to decide and act upon.

Notice that this spell does not determine what kind of magic user you create and pull into yourself. Could be a magician, a witch, a sorcerer, a spirit-worker, or other personal type or creation that is of importance to you. This spell also does not restrict you to the category you choose at the first use. The point of magic is to create and re-create, and as such, the magic user you want to be is also being made and remade as your circumstances and goals shift. The important part is that you become the person you want to become and not someone else’s ideal.

You, yourself, are the component that is in every spell you ever work.

Prepare yourself with the same diligence as you prepare everything else.
