Take a mirror. Small, but large enough to see your face. Have a sturdy cloth set aside, large enough to encompass the mirror in several layers. This cloth will be rendered unusable, so don’t use the heirlooms. In a dark room with a single light source, position yourself and the mirror so that your face is fully illuminated and you can see yourself in the mirror clearly.
Look yourself in the eyes, and call out those parts of you that are bound and trapped and that you wish to set free. Make sure you really want those parts set free. When your reflection becomes unbearable to look at, wrap the cloth around the mirror in as many layers as you can.
Lay the covered mirror on a hard surface such as a table or the floor. Take a hard instrument and raise it above your head. With a cry of “I release you!” (or what ever equivalent strikes your fancy), bring the implement down and shatter the mirror.
One strike is sufficient, as long as the mirror is broken.
Your work is done. Do not unwrap the broken mirror but dispose responsibly and in a safe manner.
Sleep well.
