While my coworker was dreaming of me protecting her (again), I was dreaming of Socheniel protecting me. Still dealing with some shit over yonder, the entity I was talking to was about to double-cross me.
Then something came up behind me and extended two wings on either side of me and curved in as they swept across the floor to cross in front of my feet. Two more wings extended to create feathered walls that framed me and the double-crossing entity. Behind me, I heard the thunk of something hard being placed on the floor as the Blightbearer formally announced his arrival by placing his rod upright behind me. I could not see but I could feel his third set of wings being outstretched in a show of silent force.
The entity shrank a bit and tried to make itself smaller. It could not bear the eyeless glare from the blighted angel’s face and turned away. The mouths on the angel’s feathers did not open, but remained sternly pressed in unspoken judgement.
The entity fled.
I didn’t realize how tired I was until I no longer had to maintain a glamour of strength. Socheniel placed his hand softly on my shoulder and I folded into a mass of unresisting flesh that he caught easily.
“Not yet. [Finish this thing, first.]”
I’m trying.
