Spelloween 2025: Day 23

Don’t mind me. Trying to get back into the groove of habits left behind. Today is October 23, 2025, and it’s time to have some fun. Each day of the month of October, I’m going to put together a little spell that involves one of my favorite tools: Tarot cards.

None of this is meant to be taken seriously, unless you want to do just that. All of this is in fun and with good intentions. All of this is meant to bring me joy. If you get some of that joy-juice as well, then all the better.

These spells are meant to be modified, adapted, used “as is”, or as inspiration for your personal rituals. Feel free to change them to suit your personal circumstances.

Day 23: Knight of Coins – Duties As Assigned

Gather the following:

  • The Knight of Coins (Pentacles) card from your tarot deck.
  • A means of propping up the card, such as a dedicated (business) card holder, phone/table stand, or creative use of unusual objects such as a pen holder, or a heavy enough mass (like the tarot deck itself).
  • At least one coin in the currency of your area. Collect the largest denomination in regular use. Do not use any coins that have emotional and/or financial value to you as these coins will be spent/donated by the end of the spell.
  • Optional: A list of tasks that you want/need assistance with.

It’s time to be responsible regardless of your age, but you just don’t have the desire nor the gumption to. This spell is to summon a (spectral) assistant that will help you with your motivation and or coordination. Do keep in mind that this spell is for entertainment only and is not a substitute for mental and/or physical medical care.

The spell:

  1. Optional: Prepare your working area and dedicate the Knight of Coins, any physical currency, and/or the list of tasks to this working. Depending on the tasks you are going to attempt under this spell, you may use a copy of the tarot card or a token that represents the card instead.
  2. Address the card (out loud or silently) and inform the figure that you have a task or a series of tasks that need to be completed today. However, you could use some assistance and so you are summoning [insert formal name/title of card] to help you with these duties. In exchange for this assistance, offer to pay the [Knight of Coins] a suitable amount of money. Generally speaking, one task for one coin, as you are able to pay. This spell works on a sliding scale.
  3. Take the Knight of Coins to where you are going to begin the task, and prop the card up in a way that the figure can “see” what you are doing. If this in the kitchen or other area that may be hazardous to a paper card, you may either use the copy/token in its place, or place the card out of immediate danger while still having the card “oversee” the work being done.
  4. Get started with your work as usual. If you are a talkative person, speak to the card. If you are a demonstrative person, show off your progress and your efforts to the card. If all this is quite silly, then complete your work in the manner you are used to.
  5. Whether you only have one task to do, or you have a series that need to be accomplished in one day, keep tally of your “debt” to the Knight of Coins. If you attempted a task, regardless of completeness, you owe the Knight of Coins for their assistance.
  6. Once you have completed as much as you can for the day and have not only put away the other tools, but have washed your hands, take up the Knight of Coins and address it once more. Review the work that was done, and if there was a moment where you felt assisted, be it surprise physical assistance or a strong mental shoring, thank the Knight of Coins for that extra assistance. Commit to paying your debt in full and place the card back in its proper deck.
  7. Once you are able to do so, spend or donate the coins. Do not keep them for use in a later spell. Spend the coins in a transaction that supports the work you did. You may also donate the coins to a charity or person that supports the same. In spending or donating the coins, you complete the spell.
  8. You may repeat this spell as needed, even if it is the same task. Just take care to pay the Knight of Coins for their assistance.

Why are you spending the coins? Because the Knight of Coins would. The Knight of Coins is not a hoarder, but a doer, and if spending their salary ensures they will be able to work again the following day, they will do so.
