Don’t mind me. Trying to get back into the groove of habits left behind. Today is October 25, 2025, and it’s time to have some fun. Each day of the month of October, I’m going to put together a little spell that involves one of my favorite tools: Tarot cards.
None of this is meant to be taken seriously, unless you want to do just that. All of this is in fun and with good intentions. All of this is meant to bring me joy. If you get some of that joy-juice as well, then all the better.
These spells are meant to be modified, adapted, used “as is”, or as inspiration for your personal rituals. Feel free to change them to suit your personal circumstances.
Day 25: The Star – A Wish In The Hand
Gather the following:
- The Star tarot card from your personal tarot deck
- Timing: Preferably night, and preferably on the dark/new moon. However, this is not critical and your personal preferences take priority.
- A small token, toy, or physical object that you can take with you or keep close at hand. Could be a coin, small toy, key-chain, bracelet charm, special pencil, or any item that fits your aesthetic. Suggestion: Read the spell entirely before you attempt it for the first time.
- Optional: A candle, electric candle, or source of light other than what you need to see by.
Inspiration often strikes when you don’t have the means to record what comes to mind. Once you are finally able to sit down and begin work on the thing, the well is dry and nothing flows. This spell is meant to bring that inspiration to you when it is needed.
The spell:
- Prepare your working area according to your personal custom. There place the Star tarot card, your token, and your candle/light source. Place the candle/light source to the rear of your working area.
- If you are using a candle/light source, call upon the star Polaris as the Night Star, the Lord of Night, or whatever title/name feels best to you in this working. You may also just light the candle as part of setting apart your working space from everything else.
- Pick up the Star tarot card. Focusing on it, with your eyes open or closed as is comfortable for you, say the following (out loud or silently):
“Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
Wish I may, wish I might,
Let me have my wish tonight.” - Place the card back on your working area, face up and upright from your point of view.
- Pick up your token, focus on it as you did the Star tarot card, and say the following:
“Wee thing, sweet thing,
Night’s song to me bring,
To me guide, to me sing,
Inspiration to me bring.” - Place the token on the tarot card, in whatever configuration or placement feels best to you. Holding your hands in front of you as if in supplication, recite the following:
“Day and night, night and day,
Are entwined in their own way.
Let what I do, let what I say,
Be inspired in every way.” - Sit a moment with the scene. Perhaps a few minutes, perhaps a more significant amount of time. Once you feel the proper time has passed, extinguish the candle/light and close your working area according to your personal custom (if you do such a thing).
- The candle may be reused for other purposes according to your working habits. Return the tarot card back to its proper deck. But keep the token on your person, or in the working area that you would like to have inspiration with/at.
- The token does not need to be in your hands or in your line of sight at all times, but it should be on your person in someway if it is hidden. If your usual workings does not bind you to secrecy, you may speak about your token and its use to others, but please use discretion in this regard.
- Should you desire a gleaming of inspiration, you may hold your token (or focus your thoughts on your token if circumstances restrict you) and recite the binding words again (out loud or silently):
“Day and night, night and day,
Are entwined in their own way.
Let what I do, let what I say,
Be inspired in every way.”
Feel free to modify the wording according to your personal language(s), meter, and meaning. You may also use this spell to create an inspirational token to be given to someone else. If you do so, create a binding phrase or poem that is of personal significance to you and the person you are creating this for. A gift given is a gift received and both of you will be inspired all the more for it.
