Spelloween 2025: Day 26

Don’t mind me. Trying to get back into the groove of habits left behind. Today is October 26, 2025, and it’s time to have some fun. Each day of the month of October, I’m going to put together a little spell that involves one of my favorite tools: Tarot cards.

None of this is meant to be taken seriously, unless you want to do just that. All of this is in fun and with good intentions. All of this is meant to bring me joy. If you get some of that joy-juice as well, then all the better.

These spells are meant to be modified, adapted, used “as is”, or as inspiration for your personal rituals. Feel free to change them to suit your personal circumstances.

Day 26: 8 of Coins – Self-Invested

Gather the following:

  • The 8 of Coins tarot card from your preferred tarot deck. If using an alternative deck, pull the card that corresponds to “growth”, “sense of self”, or “potential”.
  • A small portable mirror that you can keep on or near your person. A “clamshell” style of compact mirror is preferred.
  • A marker, crayon, or other method of marking the mirror’s surface. This spell does not require a permanent stain to be left on the surface, but you may choose to do so.
  • A means of putting money aside. Could be a savings account at your local credit union. Could be a loose change collector on your dresser. Wheresoever you choose, it should be a place that no one else has access to.
  • The immediate ability to place a minimal amount of money into that account or collector during or immediately after the ritual. The action of depositing money is more important than the actual amount deposited. Choose an amount that you can deposit eight consecutive nights without placing you in financial distress. If all you can manage is a penny, that is sufficient.
  • A block of nine consecutive calendar days. (The spell period begins at night and concludes the following day. Mark the boundary of each 24-hour period at sunset. The ritual ends on the ninth night.)
  • Optional: Once you know the size of your mirror, work out in advance a symbol, sigil, or other type of mark that signifies “increase” to you. If a different meaning appeals to you after reading this spell, then use that instead.

The best investment you can make is in yourself. Be it by learning a new skill, honing an old skill, maintaining your health, and/or holding to a reasonable budget, every little thing you do for yourself comes together to weave your future. Sometimes we need a little help to remind ourselves that we are worthy of such attention and that the work to do so is worthwhile. This spell is one of those helps.

The spell:

  1. For the first night: After sunset, prepare your working area according to your usual fashion and there place the mirror, marking utensil, and tarot card. If you are going to use physical currency in later steps, then place that currency here as well. If you are using an online financial account for this spell, and if your personal working protocols permit, have your means of accessing that account close at hand.
  2. Take up and/or focus your attention on the 8 of Coins tarot card until you feel a connection to what the card represents. Say (out loud or silently):
“Eight coins, eight ores, eight works you declare.
Eight books, eight bills, eights debts to ensnare.
Eight nights to plan how and what to dare.
Eight days to put that plan to bear.”
  3. Place the tarot card in the middle of your working area, face up and upright from your point of view.
  4. Take up the mirror and your marking utensil. If a compact or clamshell type, on the interior of the mirror, make a mark that represents to you “investment”, “growth”, “security”, or other meanings that would indicate to you personal and/or financial growth in some way. Close the mirror and place it on the tarot card.
  5. If you are using physical currency, place that currency on the mirror. If the shape of the mirror will not permit that to happen, then place the money on the tarot card or as close to the card as you can. If you are using an online account, log in to that account and verify how much money you have available at this moment. (If you need to change your deposit plans due to an emergency or other unforeseen circumstance, then change your plans. This spell is not meant to place you in financial distress.)
  6. Suspend your working at this time. If you must put matters away because it is not safe nor reliable to leave your tools out, then put them away. Keep track of any physical currency.
  7. After sunrise the following day (and before sunset), deposit the physical currency in the safekeeping of your choice and/or transfer your desired amount to your savings account. Again, the amount being transferred is not as important as actually making the deposit. If you want to say some words here, you may, but your action is the one speaking now.
  8. For subsequent nights: If necessary, prepare your working space. Again place the tarot card, the closed marked mirror, and any physical currency that you are going to deposit the following day. No words are to be said for subsequent nights. Leave the mirror closed if possible.
  9. For subsequent days: Deposit the physical currency and/or transfer your desired amount to your savings account.
  10. On the ninth night: If necessary, prepare your working space. Place the tarot card and the closed marked mirror, but nothing else. Take up the mirror and open it so that you see your reflection with the marking in the way. Say (out loud or silently):
“Eight debts to self, I did repay.
Eight times my work, I did each day.
Eight times my plan, I put to play.
Eight-fold returns, now come my way.”
  11. Close the mirror and then close the working. Return the tarot card to its proper deck. But keep the marked mirror close at hand if not on your person. When you need or want to be reminded of your worth, open the compact and look at yourself through your chosen sigil or marking. Remind yourself of why you did this working and the faith you have shown in yourself.

You may repeat this ritual as desired with different amounts of currency each time. As a reminder: The purpose of this ritual is to remind yourself that you are worth investing in. If it happens to instill a habit of regularly adding to your savings account, I will consider that a welcome side-effect.
