Don’t mind me. Trying to get back into the groove of habits left behind. Today is October 29, 2025, and it’s time to have some fun. Each day of the month of October, I’m going to put together a little spell that involves one of my favorite tools: Tarot cards.
None of this is meant to be taken seriously, unless you want to do just that. All of this is in fun and with good intentions. All of this is meant to bring me joy. If you get some of that joy-juice as well, then all the better.
These spells are meant to be modified, adapted, used “as is”, or as inspiration for your personal rituals. Feel free to change them to suit your personal circumstances.
Day 29: Ace of Wands – Knotting The Point
Gather the following:
- The Ace of Wands card from your personal tarot deck. If you are using an alternative deck, then pull the card that is aligned with the element of Air, or represents “thought”, “focus”, and/or “will”.
- Three equal lengths of string, cord, thin ribbon, or the like at least twice as long as the length of your hand. Natural materials like cotton, hemp, linen, and flax are preferred, however whatever you have on hand will do. They may be all one color or of three different colors. The only requirement is that they are flexible to wrap and tie.
- A stick or wooden rod that is at least as long as your hand and no thicker than your thumb. The stick could be a crooked windfall from a nearby tree, a piece of broken broom handle cut and sanded, or a formal magic wand that was fashioned for this purpose. But whatever the shape you obtain it must be wood of some sort.
- A draft of air. While the aesthetic of performing this spell in the wild hills while the wind whips dangerously around you is nice to think about, not everyone has access to such treasure. As such, a portable fan will do and is much more reliable and predictable. The air current need only be enough to be felt.
What is a magic worker without a magic wand? Someone with one less thing to keep track of, that’s what. There are as many ways to create and dedicate a magic wand as there are notions of what a magic wand actually is. This spell will create a magic wand, but it is up to the ritualist what to dedicate the wand to and how to use it.
The spell:
- Prepare your working area according to your usual custom. Then place the Ace of Wands tarot card, your chosen stick, and the three lengths of cord. Have your draft source nearby for ease of use, but it does not have to be in your working area.
- Turn on your fan on the lowest setting that you can feel (or open your window if you are graced with a proper breeze).
- Take the three lengths of cord and wrap them loosely around the Ace of Wands tarot card. Place the wrapped card “upwind” of you. That is, place the wrapped card between you and the fan (window).
- Pick up your chosen piece of wood. Examine it closely. Study the visual and tactile textures. Once you feel that you know this piece as well as you know your fingers, proceed.
- Take the first cord from the Ace of Wands tarot card. Say (out loud or silently):
“The wind blows as it pleases.
The stone takes offense but cannot stop it.
The wind moves around the stone and continues.
So do I.” - In a location that feels best for you, wrap the cord around the stick three times, then tie a knot to hold it in place. Once the knot is secure, declare (out loud or silently):
“As I have done.” - Take the second cord from the tarot card. Say (out loud or silently):
“The wind blows as it pleases.
The water takes offense but cannot stop it.
The wind moves over the water and takes from it.
So do I.” - In a location that feels best for you, wrap the cord around the stick three times, then tie a knot to hold it in place. You may overlap the second cord with the first cord or tie it in a different place entirely. Once the knot is secure, declare (out loud or silently):
“As I have done.” - Take the third cord from the tarot card. Say (out loud or silently):
“The wind blows as it pleases.
The fire takes offense but cannot stop it.
The wind moves over the fire and pulls it into itself.
So do I.” - In a location that feels best for you, wrap the cord around the stick three times, then tie a knot to hold it in place. You may overlap the third cord with either the first cord and/or the second cord, or tie it in a different place entirely. Once the knot is secure, declare (out loud or silently):
“As I have done.” - As you hold the tied stick with one hand and the Ace of Wands tarot card with the other. Holding them both against the flow of air, declare (out loud or silently):
“Token or talisman, this is my will.
Token or talisman, this is my will.
Token or talisman, this is my will.
And by my will, I will act!” - The spell is complete and you may close the working in your usual manner then return the Ace of Wands to its tarot deck. Whether or not you keep the fan going is up to your local weather and your heat tolerance. You may trim the cords if the unused lengths are too long, but do not cut the knots. You may also add additional items to the tied stick, including wrapping other matters over the knots, but the knots must stay in place.
While the intent of this magic wand is to be a focus for concentration, how you use it is up to you. Perhaps you need something to focus on while you brainstorm what you are going to do for tomorrow’s activities? Perhaps you will use it to direct other entities in your activities. However you use it, it is attuned to you.
(Yes, having someone assist you by using a can of compressed air to blow air towards you is a valid modification of this spell. Provided you trust them not to blow that air directly against your face or in a way that would cause you harm.)
