The Bloom of the Lotus Eye

The water came up to my waist,
As I sat in the cool clinging mud.
In my hands was a growing lotus,
Not yet ready to emerge from its bud.

The roots grew over my crossed legs,
Around waist and up my covered chest.
Draped over my back and arms,
Over my head they crowned and rest.

“A moment’s respite, you are in need,
Let go and let your peace free to bloom.
Here is a place to relax and breathe,
Uncoil, stretch out, there is room.”

The garden’s master did stand beside.
Showing me the attitude to take.
Obeying his command, I release to my binds,
Sinking further into the lotus covered lake.

The water was now up to my chest.
I held the lotus bud up to my face.
As I relaxed, the bloom matured and slowly opened,
Releasing a fragrance into the damp space.

All around the lake turned green,
From leaves that floated free.
And from the roots, my body enwrapped,
The leaves unfurled over me.

At last I knew, the garden’s peace,
The master had wished for me.
And on my head a great lotus opened,
Signaling my mind was free.

I marked no time, it mattered not,
In the lake of peace serene.
It could be days or weeks or even years.
It could be time had never been.

The lotus bloomed uncountable petals,
And gave a scent unknown.
As the roots thickened around my body,
That was slowly turning to stone.

Until a shout that called my name,
Broke the peaceful spell.
I lift my head, shocked in alarm,
Yet found that all was well.

I had dozed off in my room,
A pause in a hectic day.
Yet the garden’s peace had renewed my soul,
Renewed me in a blissful way.

Now at day’s end, I sit and reflect,
On the garden’s master and I.
I realize he is the same that I had drawn before,
The Bloom of the Lotus Eye.
